Trans-Sockets

Trans-Sockets

Trans-socket cabinets combine a current transformer cabinet and CT-rated meter socket into a single utility-approved enclosure, simplifying service entrance metering for commercial and industrial installations. Nav-Tech trans-sockets are available 200A through 800A in single-phase and three-phase configurations, NEMA 1 indoor and NEMA 3R outdoor, approved by Con Edison, PSEG LI, Orange & Rockland, Central Hudson, and other utilities. Browse approved spec sheets by utility below, or contact us for project-specific configurations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a trans-socket?
A trans-socket is a single utility-approved enclosure that combines a current transformer cabinet and a CT-rated meter socket. Instead of mounting a separate CT cabinet and meter socket and running conduit between them, the CTs and the meter socket share one cabinet, which reduces wall space and installation labor on commercial and industrial service entrances.
What amperages and phases are available?
Nav-Tech trans-sockets are built from 200A through 800A, in single-phase and three-phase configurations, in NEMA 1 indoor and NEMA 3R outdoor enclosures. Phase is identified by the part number suffix: a trailing −1 is single phase and a trailing −3 is three phase. Voltage ratings appear in the part number as well, for example TS400−240 or TS600−208 & TS600−480.
When should I use a trans-socket instead of a separate CT cabinet and meter socket?
A trans-socket is generally the better choice when the serving utility approves one for your service size and you want to save wall space and installation time. A separate CT cabinet is used when the service exceeds trans-socket ratings, when the meter has to be located away from the CTs, or when the utility requires the two to be separate. The utility’s published drawing settles it.
Which utilities approve Nav-Tech trans-sockets?
Published, approved trans-socket drawings are available for Con Edison, PSEG Long Island, Central Hudson, Orange & Rockland, First Energy, DTE Energy, and Austin Energy. Nav-Tech also builds trans-sockets to specification for many other utilities, including National Grid, NYSEG, PSEG New Jersey, PECO, PPL, Eversource, JCP&L, and Florida Power & Light. Contact us for drawings not shown on this page.
Can I get a trans-socket with an integral disconnect?
Yes. Combination units integrating a trans-socket and a disconnect switch in one enclosure are a separate product line — see Trans Socket / Disconnect Combo for approved drawings and configurations.
Can I order a custom size?
Yes. Non-standard dimensions and configurations are quoted as custom orders. Send the amperage, phase, voltage, NEMA rating, and serving utility with your request and we’ll confirm what can be built. A $100.00 minimum order applies.
